Composed of a team dedicated to the development of the programme’s methodology and actions, it operates in 3 areas:

Scientific, epidemiological and sociological studies.

Supplying health prevention support to the general population, as well as the evaluation of results.

Ongoing training for healthcare and education professionals, and local actors in towns and cities.

HISTORY: FROM THEORY TO THE VIF® PROGRAMME

Formerly known as « Fleurbaix Laventie Ville Santé », the FLVS association originally focused on preventing childhood obesity. A study of the same name, launched 25 years ago in Flanders (1992-2004), was made available at an international level. The results of this research highlighted the possibility of reducing the prevalence of overweight and obesity by gradually and sustainably changing behaviours and habits, through the mobilisation of all local actors in children and family environments. This research has given rise to an ambitious nationwide programme, based on an original methodology that can be reproduced in all member towns and cities.

Since then, the programme’s scope of action has broadened considerably, with a resolutely positive, non-stigmatising approach that is accessible to as many people as possible. VIF® – « Vivons en Forme » (Let’s Live in Shape) now encompasses health prevention and fitness initiatives in the broadest sense of the term, including new themes such as sleep and well-being.
